Program history & state funding

Florida has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in My Safe Florida Home over multiple legislative funding cycles.

2006 · Program created

The Florida Legislature created My Safe Florida Home within the Department of Financial Services and provided an original $250 million appropriation. The original funding period ran through June 2009.

2022 · Program relaunched

Florida lawmakers renewed funding with $150 million for fiscal year 2022-23. Of that amount, $115 million was designated for hurricane-mitigation grants.

2023 · Additional funding

The program received an additional $100 million in the 2023-24 state budget. After those funds were exhausted, lawmakers approved another $176.17 million in November 2023.

2024 · Another $200 million

Another $200 million was added to support the program.

Current program

The official program currently states that applications are being accepted. Funding remains subject to legislative appropriation and availability, so program status can change.

How funding continues

The program remains established in Florida law under Section 215.5586, Florida Statutes. Its implementation is subject to legislative appropriations. In practical terms, the Florida Legislature determines funding through the state budget and other appropriations, and the program operates within the funds made available.

For homeowners: You do not need to understand the legislative funding process to get started. The important point is that eligible homeowners may qualify for up to $10,000 toward approved improvements, subject to program rules and available funds.

Roof replacement

The program can help qualified homeowners offset the cost of a new, stronger roof when roof replacement is necessary to complete an eligible roof-to-wall, roof-deck, or secondary-water-resistance improvement recommended by the inspection. A roof covering replacement by itself, without an eligible mitigation improvement, does not qualify.

Important: Grant approval must be received before construction begins.
